MY TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE - I have been a licensed clinical social worker in Virginia since 1997.  I am on the faculty of the New Washington School of Psychiatry in their Center for the Study of Aging and Clinical Applications and have also taught in the social work department of George Mason University. I received a Masters in Social Work from Catholic University with a special focus in adult mental health in 1993, completed advanced training in psychotherapy from American University’s Center for Psychological and Learning Services in 1994, earned a Certificate in Gerontology from George Mason University in 2013. I had a longstanding affiliation with The Women’s Center in Vienna, where I provided psychotherapy services to clients, supervision and training to psychotherapy students, and consultation on services and programs for older adults. I am experienced in working with diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, in addition to sexual orientations.

MY PERSONAL AND LIFE EXPERIENCE - Growing up I spent many years in Africa, Asia, and Mexico, giving me broad experience with diverse cultures. I have been married for over 40 years and have two adult children. I have been a stay-at-home mother and a working mother.  I have dealt personally with many life issues including managing the learning disabilities of my children, providing many years of caregiving for a sick parent, and managing the transitions of elderly parents and in-laws.  A favorite hobby of mine is singing, and I believe strongly in the therapeutic and transformative power of art and creativity.
